Pet Bird Preservation

Important Information

We are truly sorry for your loss. Losing a beloved companion bird can be incredibly painful, and it takes courage to consider taxidermy as a way of remembering them.
Bird preservation is a very specialised craft, and it’s important that clients understand what is (and isn’t) possible before moving forward.
Please read through the following conditions carefully.

A work of art, not an exact replica

I will work from your reference photos to recreate your bird’s pose and appearance as closely as possible. While I always do my best to honour their unique look and personality, the finished mount is a representation of your bird and may not match every detail exactly.

Managing expectations

A finished mount will always reflect the condition your bird was in at the time of passing. Feathers don’t regenerate once a bird has passed, so if there was wear, stress bars, plucking, or damage (for example, from an accident or predator), these features may remain visible in the final piece. I will do everything I can to present your bird with dignity and care, but it’s important to understand that I cannot create perfect new plumage - the mount will carry the natural history of your bird’s life. These unique features often make the mount even more personal, as they reflect the bird you truly knew and loved.

Poses and presentation

Bird mounts allow more options than mammals. Some clients choose natural perching poses, others prefer resting or sleeping positions. We will discuss what feels most appropriate for your companion.

Timeframe

Pet bird commissions require patience. The bulk of the waiting period is usually due to my existing backlog, as I work through each commission in the order deposits are received. That said, once I begin your bird’s mount, I dedicate significant time and focus to the process. This is not quick or commercial work — each piece receives careful attention to detail, often well beyond the hours that make business sense, because I do this for the love of the craft and out of respect for your companion. For this reason, while some mounts may be completed within a few months, others may take closer to a year or more depending on my current queue and the complexity of the bird.

Pricing and payments

Pet bird taxidermy starts from $895 AUD for small species (budgies, cockatiels, finches, etc.), with larger parrots and exotic birds priced higher depending on size and complexity. To secure your place in my schedule, a deposit is required. The remaining balance is due once I am ready to begin your mount, before any preservation work takes place. This approach ensures fairness and helps me plan my workload carefully, as I reserve time and materials for each bird in advance. Once work has commenced, payments are non-refundable.

Remains

Taxidermy only uses the skin, feathers, and beak. The remaining tissues are respectfully disposed of unless you request otherwise. I do not provide cremation services, but I can assist with guidance should you wish to organise this separately.

Display

A simple wooden base is included. Custom bases or cases can be arranged at additional cost. Delivery/shipping is also additional. I understand that choosing pet taxidermy is not a decision made lightly. While I may not be the cheapest option, my practice is focused on honouring birds with sensitivity and respect, drawing on years of experience working with a wide range of species. If you feel this is the right way to remember your feathered companion, I am here to help guide you through the process.
