About Lauren
Lauren Hundloe is the founder and artist behind Eternal Creatures Taxidermy, an internationally trained, award-winning bird taxidermist based in Brisbane. She specialises in bird taxidermy, selected commission work, and hands-on taxidermy workshops that introduce students to one of the world's oldest and most fascinating traditional crafts. In 2026, Lauren's rainbow lorikeet was awarded Best Non-Game Bird at the Australian Taxidermy Championships, earning her progression into the Masters Division, where Australia's highest-level taxidermists compete. Her work has also been featured in multiple television productions and the feature film Alien: Covenant. Growing up across Australia, Africa and Canada, Lauren developed an early fascination with wildlife, natural history and the remarkable diversity of the natural world. That lifelong curiosity eventually led her to discover taxidermy during a one-day workshop in San Francisco.

A year that changed everything
Recognising both a natural aptitude and a genuine passion for the craft, Lauren made the decision to train professionally, completing a year-long apprenticeship during 2015-16 under Geoff Vassallo, a master taxidermist in California with more than four decades of industry experience. Like many people entering the profession, Lauren expected taxidermy to be about preserving animals. Instead, she discovered it demanded an extraordinary combination of artistic, scientific and practical skills. During her apprenticeship Lauren gained experience across an exceptionally broad range of species - from tiny mice and songbirds to pet dogs and cats, North American and African game, fish, reptiles and waterfowl - each requiring different techniques and artistic approaches. Along the way she developed skills in traditional form wrapping, sculpting, carving, freeze-drying, habitat construction and museum-quality specimen preparation, while gaining a deep appreciation for anatomy, behaviour and the subtle details that bring each animal back to life.
